After-School Sports
We are excited to announce that we will be participating in the Metropolitan Philadelphia Athletic Association again for the 25/26 school year. The MPAA provides Green Woods with the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports against a wide range of Philadelphia Charter Schools.
The fall season will consist of Volleyball (6th-8th), Co-ed Soccer (6th-8th), and Cross Country(7th-8th). Winter sports will include Girls and Boys Basketball (5th-8th). The spring season will consist of Baseball (7th-8th), Softball (7th-8th), and Boys and Girls Golf (5th-8th). Try out information for each sport activity will be sent in advance of each season.
If your student is interested in participating in any of these sports they will need a completed PIAA Physical, GWCS Transportation Waiver and MPAA Waiver before participating in any sport. If your child(ren) has recently had a physical exam the doctor will just need to fill the form out.
Completed forms should be turned into Mr. Hunsberger. Linked below are copies of the three forms:
Fall Season: Volleyball (6th-8th) Co-ed Soccer (6th-8th) Cross Country and Running Club (6th-8th)
The season for co-ed volleyball, co-ed soccer, and boys and girls cross country runs from September 10- October 22, 2025.
Due to logistics, practice schedules and game schedules for the Fall season, students can join only ONE fall sport. Students may join the running club and participate in one of the three MPAA sports (co-ed volleyball, co-ed soccer or boys and girls cross country.) If tryouts are needed students who do not make the soccer or volleyball teams may join the running club after tryouts.
GWCS sports are committed to creating an environment that prioritizes the health and well-being of young athletes and promotes their enjoyment and development in the various sports. It is our goal for the 25-26 fall sports season to shape well rounded individuals on and off the field.
Running Club and Cross Country
The GWCS Students Run Philly Style Team looks forward to many miles on the road where we can all grow as people and runners. This season, we will challenge ourselves to both set goals and reach them, as well as push ourselves past the boundaries of what we believe we are capable of achieving. You will be surprised at the end of this season how much stronger your students are mentally, physically, and emotionally. And - if they stick with us all year - they will be a Broad Street Run finisher! The Running Club and Cross Country teams are open to students in grades 6-8. All students who are interested in participating in cross country are welcomed to join the GWCS Running Club. Students may also choose to participate only in the Running Club. If your student is interested in being a part of the GWCS Running Club, Cross Country team or both this year, please use the 25/26 GWCS Boys & Girls Cross Country/Running Club Sign Up to sign your student up by Friday, August 22 by 3:00pm.
