Interesting Facts

Fact #1: The baldcypress is a “deciduous conifer,” meaning it is a cone-bearing tree that loses its needles in the fall. When its cones mature in autumn, they fall to the ground and break apart to release the seeds. It is called “bald” because it sheds its needles in winter and appears bare.

Fact #2: When the Baldcypress cones are immature, they are green, and when they mature, they turn grayish-brown. Each cone typically contains about 20–30 seeds.

Fact #3: In aquatic environments, the Baldcypress produces cone-shaped “pneumatophores” (woody knees) that emerge from the root system.
