Welcome to Middle School Mathematics!
8th Grade Math
In eighth grade mathematics, we finish our exploration in Pre-Algebra by Holt. Eighth grade will build on concepts from seventh grade and explore many new and interesting topics including Ratios and Proportions, Percents, Probability, Equations and Inequalities, Linear Equations, Functions, and Polynomials. Eighth-grade instruction is differentiated as we strive to meet the needs of individual students. Our goal is for our students to feel confident and yet challenged while practicing critical thinking skills in both a whole-group and small-group instructional setting. Eighth Grade students will leave Green Woods Charter School prepared for Algebra 1 in high school and the future.
7th Grade Math
Starting in seventh-grade mathematics students begin their discovery of Pre-Algebra by Holt, covering numerous topics including Whole Numbers, Integers, Rational Numbers, Analyzing Data, Plane Geometry, and Formulas. Seventh grade is differentiated to meet the needs of individual students. Our goal is for all of our students to feel confident and yet challenged while practicing critical thinking skills in both a whole-group and small-group instructional setting. Seventh grade is an important year for test preparation for high school and a great experience in upper-level mathematics.
5th Grade Math
During the fifth grade year, we will use the Go Math! curriculum. Fifth grade will be an exciting year covering many different topics including: Numeration (place value, fractions, decimals, percents), Operations and Computations (building algorithms to add, subtract, multiply, and divide multi-digit whole numbers and decimals), and Geometry (measuring and drawing angles, constructing circles, and calculating the area and perimeter of multiple shapes). Fifth grade will continue to practice basic skills and revisit topics regularly to ensure full concept development.
