Visit the Science Lab Online. Addison Lilholt is the science guy! After completing his student teaching with GWCS, he is starting his first full year teaching 6th grade science and the middle school science labs. He is a graduate of Saint Joseph's University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Food Marketing as well as a graduate of Arcadia University with a Masters of Environmental Education. Often times his experience in the food industry and web design industry lends itself to interesting stories about how science is everywhere.
In his free time Addison enjoys rock climbing, hiking, whitewater rafting, playing music, gardening and pretty much just being outside. His positive attitude towards learning and great enthusiasm for the environment makes his classes captivating for his middle school students. Mr. Lilholt is looking forward to a great year and wants the students at GWCS walking away knowing that science is a part of their lives. |

TO TEACH AT GREEN WOODS |
One word, awesome. Green Woods Charter truly has a wonderful mission, a caring community, and a fantastic staff to work with. As soon as I heard that I had been placed at GWCS for my student teaching experience last year, I was thrilled. I was even more thrilled when I was asked to come back this year! In my classroom I have fun and the students often do too. Science really can be exciting and interesting if it is presented in the right way. I am always trying to find good ways to do this. I try to think about what it's like to learn at Green Woods and I plan my classes with the students' interests in mind. Everyday I feel privileged to teach the students of Green Woods Charter School. |

As the CEO of Green Woods Charter School, Jean is responsible for guiding the design and implementation of our award-winning curriculum and for supporting the direction of all areas of school life. Jean works in collaboration with our staff, Board, community and educational partners to build on our successful past towards an even greater future.
Charter schools are public schools. As such Jean is accountable to the Department of Education for ensuring that our students are receiving a standards-based learning experience, from qualified teachers, within the guidelines and mandates of Federal, State, and Charter School Law. In addition to the many responsibilities associated with curriculum and instruction, Jean supports Green Woods by working closely with the school's Controller to ensure that Green Woods is not only achieving as a school, but also thriving as a business.
As a member of the State Council for Environmental Education, Jean works with many of the State's environmental experts and agencies. "By working collaboratively with the Department of Education and the outstanding environmental agencies throughout our state, Green Woods is able to gain both valuable resources along with well-deserved local, state and national recognition for the exceptional work being done by our teachers and students," Jean said.
In addition to the daily interactions with Green Woods dedicated staff and parents, Jean enjoys those rare and special times when she gets to trail along on hikes with our budding naturalists. "Hiking with even our youngest students and seeing how they interact with the natural world always presents a wonderful learning opportunity for me. Green Woods students are skilled observers, able to take in the big picture of the field ecosystem while at the same time patiently exploring the leaf litter in search of the smallest signs of life."
Jean is extremely proud to have been chosen to join a cohort of educators in a new doctoral program in Educational Leadership at Arcadia University. "Although delaying this opportunity to focus my time on the growth of Green Woods, I love learning and look forward to continuing my studies at Arcadia." Jean currently holds four Pennsylvania education certifications: Principal K-12, Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction, K-12 Environmental Education, and Elementary Education. She earned two post-graduate certifications as well as her MAEd in Environmental Education; a BA in Elementary Education, and an Associate Degree in Health Science.

Each day is a new day of exploration and discovery as we challenge each other to provide the best possible learning environment for our students.
Remaining true to our spirit of innovation, our amazing staff continues to take teaching and learning to a whole new level. Working in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Education our teachers, themselves, developed our K-8 award-winning EIC Curriculum which engages our students in integrated learning experiences that span all disciplines. Utilizing the outdoors as a classroom encourages our team to find innovative ways to mesh our indoor program with the real environment. Providing our students with multi-sensory experiences make learning come alive!
Years ago I earned my graduate degree by utilizing the outdoors as a laboratory for learning. It is so rewarding to now spend time observing our students as they explore and discover new things while interacting with the outdoors in a way that very few students get to do.
The Department of Education challenges Charter Schools to be innovative and to serve as models for traditional public schools. Through the development and implementation of an innovative, standards-based curriculum, and by using sound instructional practices, our teachers have not only met that challenge but far exceeded the expectations of both the School District of Philadelphia and the State Department of Education. It is extremely rewarding to be part of such a dynamic staff and to work in this student-centered learning environment. We are constantly re-examining what we do and how we do it. |
