A Library and Literacy for Niankorodougou
Generous donors have helped to establish and continue to support A Library and Literacy for Niankorodougou. The benefit of giving to a project like A Library and Literacy for Niankorodougou is that a little money goes a long way in rural Burkina Faso. Since this is a small project powered by dedicated volunteers, overhead costs are extremely low. Your money will be spent on the librarian salary, buying books and general building maintenance.

SUPPORT ENVIRONMENTAL LITERACY IN AFRICA!!
Our students are organizing a fundraising effort to raise money to send to a small village in Africa. The money will go toward the purchase of books that will inform and educate the people in the village of global environmental issues.
The Jr. School Leadership Team (Jr. SLT) at Green Woods Charter School is made up of a dedicated team of 7th and 8th grade students who meet weekly, discuss school issues, help create policies, and, most importantly, volunteer their time and energy to help our local community. This past year the Jr. SLT has organized an anti-bullying poster contest in our school, collected new and used clothing for a men’s homeless shelter, and volunteered at the Philadelphia Sustainability Awards. As trained conflict managers, our Jr. SLT members also help our younger students resolve minor disputes that can often arise in our school and on the playground. From these local concerns, and true to our mission, our Jr. SLT has now been called to action for a more global concern: improving the environmental literacy of a small community in Africa.
Meghann Coughlin, the daughter of our Special Education Coordinator, Melinda Coughlin, is a member of the Peace Corp and is devoting more than a year of her life to help establish a library for the French-speaking people in the small town in Africa called Niankorodougou. Donations can be sent to: “Environmental Literacy in Africa” c/o the Jr. SLT at Green Woods Charter School. Every $1.00 makes a difference.
From half way around the world, Green Woods Jr. SLT has been called into action! Our students are actively seeking monetary donations to support this very worthy literacy effort. After all when it comes to the environment, we are all in it together! |
