Life's a Beach!
The world is certainly our classroom at Green Woods Charter School!
Recently, our 3rd and 4th grade students eagerly boarded a tour bus and headed on an exciting road trip to The DuPont Nature Center in Delaware.
This adventure in learning was an extension of their indoor classroom experience here 3rd grade ends the year as amateur ornithologists while our 4th grade dives into an indepth exploration of the Delaware Estuary, the ocean and the study of horseshoe crabs.
After exploring the hi-tech, interactive interpretive center, our students, staff and parents trekked to a nearby beach where they discovered the vast diversity of life that lives in and around the Delaware Estuary and the Atlantic Ocean. The DuPont Nature Center and its surrounding beaches offer one of the best shorebird viewing areas on the planet. The Center lies on the banks of Mispillion Harbor, at the intersection of the mouths of Mispillion River and Cedar Creek, a location that showcases the convergence of two creatures of widely different biology life histories - the red knots and horseshoe crabs - yet these creatures share an amazing relationship.
Want to know more about that relationship? Ask one of our 3rd or 4th grade experts. They will be happy to share all they know about the abundance of life that lives in and around the ocean. |
