The Role Of a School Nurse

• State mandated screenings: vision, hearing, scoliosis, growth, BMI Chronic disease management
• Medication Administration and pediatric nursing procedures
Hospital Homebound Services
• Development & implement Health Plans to protect & maintain the safety & health of our students
• Develop & implement emergency plans for acute physical & emotional problems
• Monitor immunization compliance
• Assess & treat injuries & illness that occur during school hours
• Maintain confidential student Health Records
• Promote health & wellness programs
• School Nurses play a integral role in the CSAP process & medical homebound
• Monitor Individual Health Plans & 504 Plans
• Increase students self-care skills
• Teach students to be responsible for age appropriate self- management of their chronic health issues
• Educate faculty & staff on student health needs & the impact that may have on education within HIPPA guidelines
• Participate in the School District of Philadelphia & The State of Pennsylvania health policies, goals & objectives
• Promote improvements regarding the safety of GWCS physical building & the State of Pennsylvania guidelines of indoor air quality for schools
• Assist families to obtain health insurance & health care for their children
