Rob Lopata, Treasurer

Robert Lopata brings a diversity of experience to the Board of Trustees and plans to leverage the success of Green Woods to generate a funding stream that will support our strategic direction.  With over fifteen years of non-profit experience and more than ten years in academic and science-based organizations, Rob is a welcomed addition to the Board. His past success is directly aligned to our future needs, as he has recently contributed his skills to the successful planning and execution of a $75MM Capital Campaign. Rob also brings a true understanding of how quality public schools contribute to a viable economic system.

When asked why he wanted to join the Board at this time, Rob wrote,

“Most of Philadelphia's problems are linked either directly or indirectly to a school system that fails its students and its community. With better schooling options available in Philadelphia, more highly educated and skilled individuals will be more likely to keep their families in the city rather than following the usual pattern of moving to the suburbs (thereby reducing the city’s' already depleted tax base) when their children reach school age.

Charter schools, and particularly ones that excel as Green Woods has, are able to lead by example and, ideally, change the ailing school system. As a citizen of Philadelphia and a parent I consider a role on the board at Green Woods to be a service to both that small community of students and to the city as a whole.

Green Woods is well positioned to leverage its past success and to begin the process of developing sponsorship and individual support as a reliable and sustainable revenue stream. Other charters in Philadelphia and in other cities have made this evolutionary leap and I am hopeful that I can help Green Woods do the same.”
